Kik Rox at On the Rox
Alright people, this is probably THE one gig I’ve been looking forward to for a while, because it will house a variety of electronic-based-beat-cookers I’m accustomed to spinning on my Tech1200z. The hommie Tomas Wolfe reached out & asked if I’d like to join him as the resident selectors for a new experimental beat monthly called kik ROX, starting up at On the Rox this coming Thurs, May 17th. Tomas handles sound for On the Rox and was afforded this opportunity to help develop a night for all those left-field beatstrumental producers and doesn’t disappoint putting together quite an impressive first roster. I’m particularly excited to hear Groundislava of WEDIDITCOLLECTIVE & FoF (Friends of Friends). He’s graced the stage, on multiple occasions, of one of my favorite weeklies, Low End Theory. We also have another young talent Newman Wolf, who’s track “Earth King” is one of my personal favorites at the moment. Rounding out the guest roster is R.E.D. (aka Robot Eating Dragon)…lovely. Expect to hear a heavy dose of underground hip-hop-ish goodies from me on the turntables, including cutz from Flying Lotus, Ratatat, Michna, JEL, Bugseed, Youngsta, The.Two.Fifteens, Pete Rock, Teebs & Anthony Valadez to mention a few.
